While growing up, my best friend's dad was a chiropractor. I had exposure to chiropractic just a few times from him with injuries from various sports. In high school I had more care with injuries with wrestling and football. Always, I was amazed with how chiropractic could help me get back to participation fast and help keep me there through the injuries that came with each season. Once I got to Palmer College and learned the true philosophy and the true health benefits of chiropractic care, I knew I had made the right choice... read more»

I had simply reached a point in my life where I knew I had to make a decision...

For me, chiropractic wasn't always a part of my life... and it certainly wasn't my first career choice. I actually began my career as a respiratory therapist. At first, it was pretty exciting. I spent my days rotating through different emergencies and then delivering inhaled medications to try to help really sick people cope with their diseases. The work was interesting, and often times quite rewarding, such as being part of a team that helps to save the lives of newborn twins, or stabilizing a person who was in a car accident... read more»

It was no miracle or one adjustment story that caught my love for chiropractic, but a passionate doctor.

My chiropractic journey actually began in this very office, with Hassel Family Chiropractic. My family began going to see Dr. Hassel when I was beginning my undergraduate studies at the University of Northern Iowa. When I was home on breaks, I would get adjusted, and Dr. Hassel would inform me piece by piece about chiropractic, the body and health. After shadowing him a few times I saw how much he loved what he did and the people that he helped. Finally it hit me:  read more»

When I started working for a chiropractor in high school, I had no idea I had found my calling. I was introduced to the ins and outs of chiropractic office management, the healing benefits of chiropractic, and the joy of watching patients heal faster and keep injuries at bay. In 1997 I joined Hassel Family Chiropractic and I haven’t looked back. As the office manager, I love the everyday interaction I have with our patients and I thrive on the challenges that come with managing insurance claims. But one of the most exciting parts of my job is... read more»

Dr. Hassel Asks some important questions of interest to West Des Moines residents - Chiropractor West Des Moines Dr. Hassel Asks...

Can someone who has had back surgery receive chiropractic care?
Yes. Rest assured that we will avoid the surgically modified areas of your spine. However, what we find is that surgical interventions will often produce spinal instability above or below the involved level. This is will be the focus of your chiropractic care.
What's the difference between maintenance, prevention and wellness?
Maintenance chiropractic care is an attempt to keep a dynamic, ever-changing and adapting organism (you) in a static relationship with your environment. Preventive chiropractic care is mostly about early detection. Wellness chiropractic care is an attempt to optimize our health and be all that you were designed to be.
